The Intranasal Flu Vaccine (FluMist)
|
ATTENTION: Parents and Patients
Important Information Regarding The Intranasal Flu Vaccine (FluMist)
If you are requesting that you or your child have the FluMist vaccine versus a traditional Flu “shot”, please be sure to verify that your insurance benefits will cover the “mist” should you be concerned with your out-of-pocket costs. Because some benefit plans view the mist as more of a convenience than a necessity and it is more expensive, the mist may not be covered under your policy whereas the injection would be.
Benefits vary by employer and are not always specific to one insurance company’s policy or another. Therefore PAD cannot make a blanket statement that a specific insurance company will or will not cover the product. PAD always submits charges to our patient’s insurance plan for processing regardless of whether a service is covered or not. We then process the claim according to the explanation and/or payment received from the insurance company. Any service determined not covered and not paid at the time services were rendered are billed to the patient via a monthly statement following PAD’s processing of the claim.
As the insured party you are ultimately responsible for knowing the benefits of your plan. This information is typically provided to you in a benefit booklet either by your employer or the insurance company. Specific benefits can usually now be found via your insurance company’s website by setting up a log on and password to access your policy information. Should you need any assistance or have questions, contact your employer, insurance company or feel free to call our billing department at 214-369-3303.
If you ever find that a certain service is not covered by your plan and have questions about the medical necessity of the service, you may always feel free to discuss the importance of the service with your PAD physician.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding!
